Epic Engagement Session Locations in North East England!
With so many great locations to choose from, how do you pick the best one for your engagement photography session? I’d say, pick one that looks epic for a start, it might be a place that has special meaning to you. Or you might just fancy an adventure and going somewhere new!
North East England is so diverse, we have rural hills, beaches, cities, castles, rivers, forests all within a 50 mile radius! It can be a bit overwhelming to think of locations, so I’ve written this blog post to show you some of my favourite epic engagement sessions locations in North East England from Durham to Alnwick and beyond!
1. Alnwick Gardens

Alnwick Garden blossom trees
The Alnwick Gardens in Northumberland are stunning all year round, but the cherry blossoms in spring time are absolutely spectacular! Many people swing by at the Alnwick Treehouse for a bite to eat before going in to the Gardens.
Top Tip: Don’t linger for too long in the poison Garden, they have some proper deadly plants in there!!
2. Saltburn Beach
The epic colourful beach huts at Saltburn beach are so cool, what’s not to love here? Check out how cool this place really is here
3. Jesmond Dene
Jesmond Dene is a gorgeous woodland park just a mile outside Newcastle city centre, and it looks amazing any time of year. You could always pop into Santana’s at the Cradlewell for a cheeky pizza before the shoot. Nom nom! You can check out emily and Mike’s full engagement shoot here!
4. Sunderland – Roker
I absolutely LOVED this engagement session with Amy and Mark. We started off in Roker Park and made our way down to Roker Beach via some arcades just in time for sunset – absolutely perfect! Are you like Amy and Mark?
5. Simonside Woods
A beautiful pine forest near Rothbury in Northumberland, it’s part of Northumberland National Park. This is my happy place, you can find out more about Simonside here
6. Whitley Bay
Beaches, surf, arcades, Spanish City, St. Mary’s Lighthouse. Whitley Bay has so many cool options for photos, and they all look epic!
7. Cod Beck Reservoir
Rebecca and Adam’s engagement session at Cod Beck Reservoir near Osmotherley and Northallerton. It’s in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Even on a drizzly December day this place still looks ace. The full photo shoot can be found here
8. South Shields – Little Haven
Little Haven in South Shields with it’s iconic red lighthouse makes an epic backdrop for photos… and of course for a great food recommendation it would have to be fish and chips at Colmans!
9. Healey Hall
Healey Hall, next to Healey Barn near Corbridge. It’s a gorgeous Hall, and we asked permission to shoot here because Emily and Gary were getting married at Healey Barn (you can see their fab wedding here) so all was good, you can see for yourselves how lovely it is here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my list of epic engagement session locations for the north east, I’ll be adding to the list as I get to shoot at more cool places. If you’ve got a recommendation, why not comment below 🙂
