A Modern North East Wedding Venue with Urban Soul

The BALTIC is one of my absolute favourite modern North East wedding venues. Sitting right on the River Tyne with panoramic views across the Newcastle skyline, it’s effortlessly cool — industrial architecture, clean lines, and huge windows that fill the space with atmosphere.

For couples who want something different — a wedding that feels modern, creative, and not at all traditional — a BALTIC wedding is the perfect choice. Hannah and Harry wanted a laid-back wedding that reflected them perfectly: modern, minimal fuss, and focused on having fun with the people they love most.

A Cosy Candlelit Ceremony

Their ceremony took place in one of the BALTIC’s gallery spaces — dark, intimate and full of flickering candlelight. The low, warm glow gave the whole room a romantic, cinematic feel. As Hannah walked in, all the chatter softened into smiles; you could feel the connection in the room.
Their vows were heartfelt and personal — not over-rehearsed, just honest and emotional. The mood was calm, grounded, and beautifully genuine — the perfect setting for a modern, relaxed wedding that felt deeply personal.

Wild Wind and Confetti

Once they were officially married, everyone grabbed handfuls of confetti and headed outside — straight into a full-on gale! Hair flying, petals everywhere, and laughter all round. It was chaotic in the best possible way, and exactly the kind of fun, unposed moment that tells the real story of the day.
As a relaxed wedding photographer, I love these unpredictable bits — they bring the personality of a wedding to life far more than any perfectly staged shot ever could.

Portraits by the River Tyne

After everyone had thawed out from the wind, we took a quiet wander along the Quayside for portraits. The Newcastle skyline — the Millennium Bridge, the Sage, the reflections in the water — made a stunning backdrop for modern wedding photography.
Hannah and Harry were totally themselves. No stiff poses, just natural connection — laughing, chatting, soaking it all in. I always tell couples that the best photos happen when you just be you, and they did exactly that.

A Relaxed Reception with a View

The BALTIC’s SIX Restaurant came to life. Long tables, candles, colourful flowers, and the glow of the city outside — everything felt warm and vibrant. Guests leaned in, shared stories, and the speeches had everyone both laughing and crying (sometimes at the same time).
Later, the dance floor filled and the Tyne lights sparkled through the glass. It was a celebration that perfectly balanced modern style with laid-back energy — fun, genuine, and so full of love.
